About The Owners and Greyt Escape
The short story:
Once upon a time a couple happened upon the Reid Park Animal Fair. Here they met a
beautiful red fawn and white greyhound named Riley. After applications and a home
visit, Riley came to stay and they all lived happily ever after.
Then they opened a greyhound boarding facility in his honor and to honor all other
hounds rescued by wonderful adopters?
The REAL story:
After a great deal of begging, Brian drove Me (Michelle) to the Reid Park Animal
Fair. Prepared to say ?no? each time I asked, begged and pleaded to add a dog to
our home, we wandered through all the booths petting, snuggling and falling in love
with the animals.
Because Brian's father had just lost a sight hound and mentioned potentially
adopting a Greyhound, we wandered over to a booth. The Arizona Greyhound Rescue
volunteers spoke with us and introduced us to a group of hounds waiting for their
forever homes. This is when we first met Riley. We met Riley several other times
this day as, each time we turned around, here he came with volunteer in tow to lean
on us gazing up with those big brown eyes. I'm sure you all know "the big brown
eyes." The eyes that melt your heart and without a word, say, "Please take me home
and love me. oh, and don't forget lots of soft beds and the squeaky toys!" And so,
we did.
Well, not before the online application, phone conversations, home visit, video and
lots of reading. Two weeks later he was brought to the house, found a toy and began
running joyous circles down the hall, through the kitchen and to the living room.
Round and round and round he went. (He soon learned tile was not the most suited running
ground after sliding through the kitchen, taking out a couple plants and the trash can on
the way. Tip-toes on smooth tile from then on!)
For several months in 2006, after volunteering at the kennels I thought "I want to
do this always!" After purchasing our second house with 5 acres and built
(literally) for a home business, on August 1, 2006 Greyt Escape was opened.
Riley is our fabulous host hound. He graciously greets each hound upon arrival,
nudges the adopter with affection for bringing another playmate and teaches the
ropes like "how to use a doggy-door." He even shares his favorite bed!
Now, almost two years later, Greyt Escape has invited well over 100 hounds into
our home. They have become an extension of our family - and their adopters, more
like friends. Through photographs we take and stories we share, you will know
that your hound has been well cared for and loved on their vacation. Maybe even a
little spoiled!
